Following Mitch McConnell’s Filibuster of the Bipartisan January 6th Commission, Stand Up America Renews Its Call to Abolish the Filibuster

WASHINGTON – Today, following a partisan filibuster of the bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection, Stand Up America Founder & President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“Today’s filibuster of the bipartisan January 6th commission—orchestrated by the Senate’s partisan Republican minority—is proof that we can’t protect our democracy with the filibuster intact.

“If this bipartisan commission can’t even make it past the filibuster, then without reform there’s no hope for accomplishing anything else the American people need Congress to get done, including protecting voting rights, addressing climate change, or raising the minimum wage.

“Enough with the gridlock. Senate Democrats must abolish the filibuster so that they can govern. That’s what Americans sent them there to do.”

So far this year, Stand Up America members have made nearly 37,000 constituent calls and sent over 48,000 emails demanding senators not let the filibuster stand in the way of passing the For the People Act, the Voting Rights Act, and progress for the American people.
